For decades, we'd used ATVs. Nasus and Bandvagns mostly. Slow, lumbering things, but built for the snows of the Lapland. I was the one who changed all that, moving us over to t-birds. I made us fast and nimble. The Russians were still slow. And though they had us outnumbered and outgunned, we could run circles around them.

I'm not sure when, and I'm not sure who. But the comparison was made to Rommel. "Arctic Fox" followed soon thereafter. But I don't celebrate the title. Far too many young soldiers died under the command of the Arctic Fox.

Colonel Aleksi Laine is a character in Shadowrun: Dragonfall.

Background[]

Before you stands a troll, though it is a stretch to say he is standing at all. His great mass is barely held upright by two vintage prosthetic legs, dating back to the first Euro War, along with a crutch under one arm. His body clicks and hums with every shift of his weight. Despite these disabilities, his eyes are sharp and calculating.

Aleksi served in the Finnish Defence Force, as the Colonel in charge of Jaeger Brigade. During the war, the Russians thought to invade through the Lapland, believing Finnish lines were thinner there. They thought wrong - and Aleksi Lane, the man who revolutionized the Jaeger Brigade and turned it into a highly mobile defensive force, destroyed the slow Russian invaders through a combination of superior tactics, guile, and sheer luck. He earned himself the nickname Arctic Fox, but does not use it. He feels that too many men have died under his command.

Interactions[]

  • As the runs go by, you can talk to Aleksi about his past and eventually coax him to reveal that he was, in fact, the commander of the Jaeger Brigade during the Euro Wars.
  • He will be attacked between your runs, by a fanatic who does not want his experience and respect to support any of the pro-metahuman parties. The old troll doesn't take any crap, though - after he fails to talk the fanatic down, Aleksi promptly beats him down with an argument of strength - his prosthetic leg.
